A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 25

I had hoped that the mermaid would be back in her natural environment by now, but that hadn't been possible.  I still had much to learn.  For almost a month, I'd managed to keep my cats out of the room where the mermaid lived.  But they really needed to be able to spread out in their own home and I believed the mermaid was quite safe, due to the glass cover on the top of the aquarium.  So, I let the cats roam freely around the house.  It was a little bit harrowing,  both for the mermaid and for me.

Note:  The daily post was a January project for me.  I will keep the story going but won't be posting a page every day.

A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 19

If you've been following this journal since Day 1, you've probably figured out that I'm a romantic at heart.  I love a good romance novel.  Every day, I create the image and the story then wonder what's going to come next.  If you're wondering the same thing, you'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 18

Artist's Trading Card 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches

The challenge at Collage Obsessions this week was to make an image of a shrine.  Of course, I had to make a mermaid shrine.  It would be tough to visit this one, since it's far down below the sea so I hope you enjoy the picture. See the other shrines here

Maggie, at Inspiration Avenue, challenged us to make an ATC sized image so this one was created in the size for an Artist's Trading Card.  You can see the Inspiration Avenue entries here

A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 15

I can only take credit for the writing on this page.  The rest was created by the Irene Jones, a new designer for Deviant Scrap.   She goes by the name "Off With the Fairies" and you can obtain a freebie for this kit or purchase the entire kit  HERE.  No, I'm not on her payroll and I don't get compensated for recommending her.  I just love this kit!  I promise to make more pages in this story that include more of my own digital collage work but this one just fit.

Grow Your Blog!

Hi.  I'm Lou Anne, a Misplaced Mermaid and member of Inspiration Avenue.   IA is a small group of artists who have formed an Etsy team.  We also have a blog that posts artistic challenges each week.  This week, I was the host of the challenge.  Since we're also going to have a tag swap and it's happening around Valentine's Day, I challenged everyone to share an image that defined love and/or romance for them. (Click the red button on the right to sign up.) I decided to combine some things I'm working on to make my image.

I'm attracted to many different genres of art.  There are countless photographers, painters, sculptors, and mixed media artists who make images that inspire me.  The digital aspect of collage is currently my main passion in life.  I've spent a great deal of time during the past two years learning to work with Photoshop Elements so I can share my vision with others.

This digital collage is a small tribute to some of the things I love about making digital art.   When I began this journey, I was stunned by the generosity of other image makers.  By sharing their image collections, as well as their expertise, they allowed me to create a library of components for my art.  Every day, I visit other sites and drink in the visual delights each blogger has shared.  My goal is to increase my connections with others who share my passion for making images, whether it is in the form of a scrapbook page detailing their lives or a piece to hang in a gallery.  I have much to learn about the technical aspects of this type of art but I welcome the process of collaborating with others while I take this path.

It's also important for me to learn some ways to transform my vision into 3D images, creating assemblages, shadow boxes, and other mixed media pieces.  I think that's the appeal of mixed media for me-it's wide open!

I joined the Grow Your Blog hop hoping to increase my followers. I think it was an awesome idea and I'm really grateful that Vicki at Two Bags Full was willing to host this blog hop.   I'll be visiting as many blogs as I can and signing on to follow them too.   Thank you very much for visiting me!  I welcome comments and I'd love to have you sign up to follow Misplaced Mermaid.

A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 11

This info on Emily's full name came from the Mermaid Name Generator in my sidebar. You can grab it for your blog if you like, or just find out your mermaid name.

 Star Shore Swift  (stellatus litoreus)
A nocturnal variety, known to glisten with natural phosphorescence under the light of the stars.
A friendly variety, fond of children, often seen playing with swimmers in the shallows, though one should always exercise caution due to its unpredictable nature.
Note: Faster than most varieties, with superior physical ability and quick wittedness.

Inspiration Avenue Challenge-Poppies

My IA friend Nancy challenged us to create an image about poppies this week.    I collected some lovely poppy images and started to think about creating a beautiful and simple digital collage.  My muse, however, had a different idea.  I couldn't shake the thoughts of the 60,000 + troops serving our country in Afghanistan.  President Obama's timeline was to bring them all back by the end of 2014.  That seems so far away to me.  I made this image and thought how awesome it would be if the president could change the timeline so that the longest war in American history could end sooner.

Today, President Obama announced his plan to begin bringing troops home this spring.  It was the best news I've had in a long time.  I don't personally have a family member fighting over there but every person in the armed forces is there for me.   They're fighting for my country and I am cheering for their safe return home.

A Misplaced Mermaid's Journal-Day 5

I am planning a trip to Petsmart tomorrow so I'll pick up some fish food.  I'm not sure what else to try but I had better get creative or she won't last long.  Maybe she'd like a bigger bowl as well.
